The International Telecommunication Union announced that the Kingdom achieved second place among the G20 countries in the 2023 Information and Communication Technology Development Index (IDI), recording the Kingdom’s lead over the G20 countries in the index by 10 places.

 

According to what was reported by the Communications and Information Technology Commission, the evaluation of the index highlights the strength of the Kingdom’s infrastructure in the field of communications and technology, the availability of its services and its direct impact on the growth and development of the national digital economy, as well as its implications for attracting investment in the Kingdom and supporting an increase in the size of the communications market. and technology in the Kingdom.

 

  The index also shows the great interest that the Kingdom has given to infrastructure, communications and technology services to achieve positive effects on economic growth and generation of opportunities. The telecommunications market in the Kingdom is the largest and fastest growing in the Middle East and North Africa region, and it enjoys an advanced and renewable digital infrastructure, with an Internet penetration rate of 99 percent. %, and “Saudi Vision 2030” also included direct programs to achieve the Kingdom’s global leadership in digital progress, as it invested more than 93 billion riyals in total capital investments in digital infrastructure during the past six years, which enabled it to achieve leadership and progress in global indicators and continue to achieve achievements. . At the international level.

 

The index monitors the economies of 169 countries, to measure their progress in communications and technology services through a number of sub-indices divided into the two pillars of comprehensive and effective communication, with the aim of measuring the extent to which standards of infrastructure strength are achieved and the provision of safe services and effective communication for all.
